Troutdale (population 16,348) is a thriving and growing Pacific Northwest community situated on the banks of the Columbia and Sandy rivers and is known as “The Gateway to the Columbia River Gorge.” Located on the eastern edge of the Portland metropolitan region, it is well positioned to contribute to and benefit from the regional economy while providing residents with quality-of-life amenities both locally and in the surrounding area.

The ideal candidate should be a dynamic and experienced leader, with strong, well rounded leadership and management abilities that promote a collaborative and visionary organization. An understanding of Council-Manager government roles is important, with desired attributes and skills including: professionalism, neutrality, personability, small team management experience, strong economic development knowledge, public finance proficiency, familiarity with public works, excellent communication skills, ability to promote strong intergovernmental relationships, community engagement skills, and public safety planning experience. A willingness to serve as an active, positive representative of and advocate for the City is essential.

Education / Experience

The City Manager position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, political science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level local government management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City prefers a candidate with an advanced degree in public administration or related field, and at least five years of increasingly responsible experience. Experience and/or training in inter-governmental relations, public safety, economic development, redevelopment initiatives such as working with Oregon urban renewal agencies is highly desired.

Compensation is $170,000 to $210,000 (DOQ) annually with excellent benefits.
